Class Descriptions

Beginner & Intermediate Classes

In this 6-week class, led by accomplished artist, Carol Marie Vossler, you will learn the basics of how to make objects out of clay. For those who are new to clay or have some knowledge of clay (beginner- to intermediate). The clay that we use in this class is midrange stoneware, fired to Cone 6 (2230 degrees Fahrenheit). We will learn several techniques for shaping the clay. Together we will explore some hand-building techniques but most of the emphasis will be exploring wheel throwing, firing, and glazing.

Advanced Class

In this 6-week class, led by master potter and sculptor Peter Shrope, the potter will view demonstrations of more advanced techniques, and be given weekly projects to develop intermediate skills, focusing on the design and function of a well-made pot.  This class is not for beginners; students must have pottery wheel experience.  This class will also focus on some glaze techniques. The clay that we use in this class is midrange stoneware, fired to Cone 6 (2230 degrees Fahrenheit).

2025 Specialty Workshops and Firings (we will be hosting multiple Pit Fires, & Raku)

Join internationally acclaimed artist, Randi Renate, for The Station Pottery’s specialty workshops! The Station will be hosting multiple pit fires and raku workshops. A pit fire is an ancient method of firing clay in the ground. The process itself is an experience and the technique is celebrated with the colors, swirls, and patterns that emerge from the magic.

Raku firing is a traditional Japanese pottery technique known for its unpredictability and unique results. It is often characterized by its crackled glaze and vibrant colors, making it a sought-after art form for many collectors and enthusiasts. (Image Credit: ClassBento)
